MOTORCYCLE DRAG RACING
Who: YOU! and the Sang-Froid Riding Club
Where: Portland International Raceway
What: P.I.R Late Night Drags. This is 1/4-mile “heads-up” racing (you both leave at the same time, first one over the finish line wins!). Race as much as you want – unlimited runs once you’re in.
When: Friday the 18th, July. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., racing begins ~6, track open until ~9:30. (They usually nudge us out of there around ten p.m.)
Why: It’s fun! Plus primo bragging rights: best burnout, fastest top speed, best shit-talking, lowest elapsed time … you name it!! Plus, we’ll have a variety of award certificates (suitable for framing) to the lucky few who have what it takes. Spruce up your garage or swap space with some earned bling.
How (racing): Go to PIR with $40. At the gate, ask for a tech card; stick it in your pocket and come see us in the pits. We’ll be pitting near the grandstands, just to the west of the tower at the outside of the track – look for the grey and red SFRC EZ-Up. We’ll set you up with a temporary number plate, and pointed at tech and registration. It’s easy, and it’ll just take a few minutes, then you’ll be on your way!
* You DO NOT need a race license, just your driver’s license
* Make sure your bike is in decent shape and has a chainguard. Streetbikes are A-OK to run as-is; racebikes are good too!
* Wear over-the-ankle boots, gloves, full-face Snell 2015 or newer helmet, leather jacket (leather pants too if you have them). One-piece leathers are NOT required. If you’re on a ‘slower’ bike (under 120 mph) or a ‘smaller’ bike (600cc or less) you’re OK without safety pants – jeans are OK. (These are PIR’s rules, not ours).
How (spectating): Go to PIR with $10. At the gate, tell them you’re there to spectate. We’ll be pitting near the grandstands, just to the west of the tower at the outside of the track – look for the grey and red SFRC EZ-Up.
All the $ goes to PIR Late Night Drags, we’re just trying to get folks to come hang out and race motorcycles! |
